Goportis and FIZ Karlsruhe jointly offer services for science

Goportis, the Leibniz Library Network for Research Information, and FIZ Karlsruhe - Leibniz-Institute for Information Infrastructure enter into a partnership agreement. In view of the changes and challenges in the information landscape, the four partners bundle their skills and forces. In order to provide innovative products and services, joint developments and processes are planned to support science in a more efficient and comprehensive way.

With Goportis and FIZ Karlsruhe, four important German infrastructure institutions join forces. Their aim is to closely collaborate in developing, offering, and hosting new e-Science services in the future. The activities will focus on providing electronic content on a sustainable basis. Existing offers and services (e.g., eSciDoc, DataCite) will be combined and enhanced.

Uwe Rosemann, spokesman of the Goportis network, says: “Providers of infrastructural services for scientists in Germany need to work closely together in order to fulfill their future task of jointly handling large web repositories. Therefore, the Goportis partners are pleased to collaborate with FIZ Karlsruhe“.

Sabine Brünger-Weilandt, President and CEO of FIZ Karlsruhe, adds: “In a scientific environment increasingly characterized by globalization and digitization, the infrastructure institutions have to meet new challenges. There is a growing demand for innovative services. These services have to be provided by experienced, skilled, and reliable institutions on a long-term basis. We at FIZ Karlsruhe consider the partnership with Goportis a forward-looking approach“.

The first joint activities will focus on hosting. A large amount of digital publications from publishing houses will be processed. E-journals, e-books and databases will be stored, administered and made available to scientists via a sustainable infrastructure. Another project is to collaborate in the fields of long-term preservation and full-text provision.
