The service is offered worldwide.

Licences
Publishers and academic associations offer electronic full texts, but these are for the most part not freely available. Goportis aims to make these full texts conveniently available. To this end, the partners cooperate in negotiating contracts with the publishers. These licences then provide the basis on which full texts are made available to all interested customers – either for a fee or at no charge.

Non-textual materials
Scientific publication, a major factor in the acquisition of knowledge, is only the final step in a process potentially based on a wide variety of scientific information. The issuing of DOI names as unambiguous references will make it possible to integrate such non-textual materials in the catalogues of the Goportis partners as well.

Digital Preservation
Graphics files of digitization projects, electronic theses and dissertations, non-textual content, non-textual materials, digital grey literature – an ever-growing part of library collections consists of digital information in miscellaneous formats. These digital materials are collected and made accessible. The digital preservation of such data poses a new problem.

Goportis promotes Open Access
The importance of freely available scholarly publications on the internet, also known under the term Open Access, is growing. The three Goportis libraries actively support this movement – not only by developing and maintaining publication platforms in close cooperation with the scientific community, but also by providing expert support on all issues regarding Open Access.
