Since 1st April 2010, the three German National Libraries have been working out strategies for the storage of digital resources in an 18-month pilot project and, based on a digital preservation system implemented for testing purposes, have been determining the institutional and technical requirements on a production system.
The specific tasks of the pilot project include:
- Analysis and implementation of selected workflows for simple and complex digital objects
- Implementation and configuration of the test system
- Integration of the test system into the existing technical system infrastructures
- Interface adjustments
- Testing of the system under production conditions
The project structure is characterised by the interaction of specialists from the fields of IT development, library and digital preservation. The goal is the greatest possible extent of exchange of information and experience between the respective areas of work and between the libraries involved.
